Fill dirt is the soil usually found underneath topsoil. Fill dirt can be a mixture of sand, rocks, and dirt and is usually used to fill holes in the ground or change land elevation. It can be used in a variety of different project ranging from large commercial projects to residential landscaping projects. Such projects can include raised flower beds, raising land to fix drainage issues, and securing ground around retaining walls. Although fill dirt contains little to no nutrients for plant growth, it provides more stability and doesn’t shift and settle as much as topsoil.
